LAKE WALES, Fla. - The No. 21 Warner University Men's Basketball team went head to head with conference opponent, Johnson and Wales University in the Sun-conference opener. The Royal's offense proved to be too much for the Wildcats as the Royals pulled out a 110-90 victory.
The Royals entered today's game with a 6-0 overall record. Maxwell Beniot leads the Royals in scoring with 129 points on the season. He ranks NO. 12 in the NAIA in total scoring and NO. 15 in field goal percentage shooting 62 %. DJ Mercer leads the team with 31 assists and ranks nationally in the NAIA at NO.15 in overall assists.
Between the Royals and Wildcats, the Royals lead the all-time series 21-8 since 2002, now 22-8. The previous meeting, the wildcats snapped a 3-game winning streak defeating the Royals 70-74.
The Royals took a 59-33 lead into halftime hitting 57% of their shots from the field.
Joshua Rathell and
Michael Vandall scored 10 a piece in the half. Following closely were
Joseph Martz and
Kimar Edwards who scored 9 each.
Jaquez Dickerson led the team in the first half with 7 rebounds, 1 offense and 6 defensive.
The Royals offense held steady in the second half knocking down 56% of their shots from the field.
Kimar Edwards and
Bart Schild led the team with 17 points scored in the game.
Jaquez Dickerson finished 1 rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and 9 rebounds, 1 offensive and 8 defensive.
With this win, Warner is now 7-0 overall and off to their hottest start since 2014-15 when they started the season 9-0. The Royals improve to 1-0 in the Sun Conference.
