WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Royals completed their 5
thand 6
thgames in three days falling to the NAIA #5 Georgia Gwinnett Grizzlies and taking down the Martin Methodist RedHawks.
GAME 1 - WU 4, GGC 15
The Royals were stunned by the NAIA #5 Grizzlies as their offense was relentless. The Grizzlies smacked 6 homeruns and could not be stopped offensively. The Royals were held to 2 hits in the game.
Caitlyn Yockey and
Kasey Heslin registered the hits for the Royals with both of them scoring a run in the game.
Kaitlyn Ridolph pushed across 2 RBI's in the game while
Caitlyn Yockey and
Sara Bruno were responsible for 1 RBI a piece. Above all, it was the Grizzlies that broke out for 16 hits, 6 homeruns and 15 runs in the game improving their overall record to 9-0 on the season.
GAME 2 – WU 3, MMC 2
The Royals were able to put the previous game behind them which is hard to do and battle the RedHawks to a 3-2 victory. The runs for either team were silent until the 4
thinning when the Redhawks capitalized on an error and a crucial base hit to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the 4
th. The Royals also fired up the offense in the bottom of the 4
th.
Kaitlyn Ridolph smacked a double into the right center gap that scored
Ashton Owen. Later in the inning,
Megan Garfinkel shot a sharp single into left field that scored Ridolph.
Kasey Heslin stepped in a little later and hit a single into left field right over the 3
rdbaseman pushing Yockey across the plate then Garfinkel was thrown out at home trying to extend. With the bottom of the 4
th, the Royals took a 3-2 lead and would hang on until the end to take the victory.
Ashton Owen had the best game at the plate going a straight 3-3 with a double.
Sylvia Welsh improved to 2-0 on the season as she tossed a second complete game with 7 innings pitched, 5 hits, 2 runs and 5 strikeouts.
