CLERMONT, Fla. – The Warner University Royals Softball team took another sweep on the day winning games against the Mount Vernon Nazarene Cougars and Point Park University Pioneers. With the two wins, the Royals have now entered a three-game winning streak.
Another couple games in neutral territory vault the Royals to a 6-2 overall record. They took a game one victory over the Mount Vernon Nazarene Cougars and another against the Point Park University Pioneers.
Today's victory over the Cougars continues the Royals four game streak remaining undefeated against schools with feline mascots in the 2019 season.
GAME 1 – WU 10, MVNU 9
The Royals offense put up 10-runs off 9-hits in the game against the Cougars. What plagued them was a 9-run inning in the top of the of the 5
thby the Cougars. Warner plated 6-runs in the first 4 innings largely in part to a
Kasey Heslin inside the park homerun which makes the first homerun of her career. With the Cougars scoring 9-runs in the top of the 5
th, the Royals trailed 9-6 heading into the 6
thinning.
Kayleigh Walters reached on a fielder's choice that scored
Katelyn Richards cutting the Cougar lead to 9-7. With bases loaded,
Sara Bruno hit a rocket to left field that fell for a base hit then skipped off the glove of the left fielder and turned into a bases clearing single that eventually gave the Royals a 10-9 win.
Brooke Olinger solidified a win out of the circle not surrendering a single hit and striking out 2 over 2 innings of work.
GAME 2 – WU 9, PPU 3
Brittany Winget earned the win for the Royals in the circle spreading out just 2 hits over 5 innings of work and also striking out 5 which improves her to 2-1 on the season.
The Pioneers struck first blood plating 3 runs in the bottom of the 2
nd. The Royals got on the board with a
Brittany Winget infield single that scored
Kasey Hesling. A majority of the Royals runs came in the top of the 4
thwhen Heslin singled in
Caitlyn Yockey.
Sara Bruno then grounded out to short but scored
Megan Garfinkel on the ground ball. A costly error by the Pioneers cause Heslin and Walters to score.
Kaitlyn Ridolph picked up a 2 RBI single scoring
Ashton Owen and Abby Oliver. It was Owen again that singled on the infield and scored Heslin. The Royals took game two on the day by a final score of 9-3.
Kasey Heslin hit the first homerun of her collegiate career and also accounted for 7-runs scored while racking up 3 RBI's and going 5-8 at the plate in the two games.
Caitlyn Yockey went 5-7 at the plate while scoring 3-runs.
The Royals will host their home opener on Friday, March 1st. They will take on Calumet St. Joseph in a double header at 4 & 6 PM.
