Warner Baseball – Royals Win 2nd TSC Series, Taking 2/3 From Florida Memorial

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Warner went on the road for their 1st TSC road series of the year this past weekend, traveling down south to take on the Florida Memorial Lions.

Warner came into the weekend with a 5-3 overall record and were 2-1 in conference play, after taking 2/3 from Ave Maria in their 1st TSC series.

Florida Memorial entered the weekend with a 5-3 overall record and were also 2-1 in conference play as they started their series against the Royals.

Warner hit over .320 as a team this weekend at the plate and were led by Trey Matthews and Scott Fickas, who earned the SID Players Of the Weekend:
Warner won Game 1 on Friday by a score of 9-4.

Michael Batten started on the mound for Warner, pitched 5 innings and struck out 5 before being relieved by Kody Smith. Smith pitched 3 innings, striking out 2 and was relieved by Jake Leiffer who came in and closed the door in the Lions in game 1.

The Royals had 2 extra base hits in the game 1 victory and played lights on offense and defense in route to their 3rd conference win.

Game 1 was postponed in the 8th inning due to darkness and was finished on Saturday morning before the start of Game 2.

Game 2 ended with the Royals defeating the Lions 11-8; Scott Fickas went 3-4 at the plate, with 1 RBI and 3 Runs scored in the game.

Alex Vazquex and Trey Matthews went a combined 4-9 at the plate with 4 RBI's in the win.

Jaryd Clary started on the mound in game 2 for the Royals, pitching 4.1 innings before being relieved by Jarrett Joyner who pitched 3.2 innings. Taylor Briggs came into close and secure the win for the Royals, pitching 1 inning and grabbing the save.

The Royals kept the train rolling into game 2, beating the Lions 11-8 but were unable to complete the sweep of the Lions, as darkness put an end to game 3 on Saturday evening with Florida Memorial leading 8-5 in the 7th inning.

Andres Fernandez started on the mound for the Royals in game 3 and pitched 5.2 innings before he was relieved by Joey Theune.

Warner trailed 6-1 as they entered the 7th inning but scored 4 runs in the top of the 7th to bring the Lions lead down to 6-5. In the bottom half of the inning the Lions were to bring 2 more runs across the plate and once again extended their lead.

Unfortunately for the Royals mother nature did not allow enough time for a comeback and because of the rule that stats if a game has played at least 6 ½ innings with the home team winning the game will be called.

The Royals walk away with a 7-4 overall record and are now 4-2 in conference play after their 2nd TSC series played.
