MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Warner went on the road for their 1
st TSC road series of the year this past weekend, traveling down south to take on the Florida Memorial Lions.
Warner came into the weekend with a 5-3 overall record and were 2-1 in conference play, after taking 2/3 from Ave Maria in their 1
st TSC series.
Florida Memorial entered the weekend with a 5-3 overall record and were also 2-1 in conference play as they started their series against the Royals.
Warner hit over .320 as a team this weekend at the plate and were led by
Trey Matthews and
Scott Fickas, who earned the
SID Players Of the Weekend:
Warner won Game 1 on Friday by a score of 9-4.
Michael Batten started on the mound for Warner, pitched 5 innings and struck out 5 before being relieved by
Kody Smith. Smith pitched 3 innings, striking out 2 and was relieved by
Jake Leiffer who came in and closed the door in the Lions in game 1.
The Royals had 2 extra base hits in the game 1 victory and played lights on offense and defense in route to their 3
rd conference win.
Game 1 was postponed in the 8
th inning due to darkness and was finished on Saturday morning before the start of Game 2.
Game 2 ended with the Royals defeating the Lions 11-8;
Scott Fickas went 3-4 at the plate, with 1 RBI and 3 Runs scored in the game.
Alex Vazquex and
Trey Matthews went a combined 4-9 at the plate with 4 RBI's in the win.
Jaryd Clary started on the mound in game 2 for the Royals, pitching 4.1 innings before being relieved by
Jarrett Joyner who pitched 3.2 innings.
Taylor Briggs came into close and secure the win for the Royals, pitching 1 inning and grabbing the save.
The Royals kept the train rolling into game 2, beating the Lions 11-8 but were unable to complete the sweep of the Lions, as darkness put an end to game 3 on Saturday evening with Florida Memorial leading 8-5 in the 7
th inning.
Andres Fernandez started on the mound for the Royals in game 3 and pitched 5.2 innings before he was relieved by
Joey Theune.
Warner trailed 6-1 as they entered the 7
th inning but scored 4 runs in the top of the 7
th to bring the Lions lead down to 6-5. In the bottom half of the inning the Lions were to bring 2 more runs across the plate and once again extended their lead.
Unfortunately for the Royals mother nature did not allow enough time for a comeback and because of the rule that stats if a game has played at least 6 ½ innings with the home team winning the game will be called.
The Royals walk away with a 7-4 overall record and are now 4-2 in conference play after their 2
nd TSC series played.
