AVE MARIA, Fla. – The Warner Royals men's tennis team took Ave Maria this past weekend and defeated them 5-4. The Royals were led by sophomore
Vitor Wagner who was named the TSC player of the week.
Doubles
Doubles #1 –
Matheus Aquino &
Vitor Wagner defeated David Zuleta & Nicholas Hofmeister 8-4 to win the first match of the day for the Royals.
Doubles #2 –
Julian Cuartas &
Filipe Gil defeated TJ Fischer & Jonathan Althoff 8-2 to seal the Royals 2
nd doubles win of the day.
Doubles #3 –
Henrique Dias &
Bruno Carvalho took on Brandon Valley & Cesar Menacho in the last doubles match and fell 8-6 to the Gyrenes.
Singles
Singles #1 –
Matheus Aquino defeated Ave's Davis Zuleta 7-5 & 6-3 to grab the 1
st singles win for the Royals. Bringing the Royals lead up to 3-1 on the day.
Singles #2 –
Julian Cuartas fell to Ave's Nicholas Hofmeister 6-4 and 6-1, bringing the Gyrenes within 1 match of the Royals.
Singles #3 –
Vitor Wagner made easy work of Ave's TJ Fischer, defeating him 6-3 & 6-1 to give the Royals a 4-2 edge over the Gyrenes.
Singles #4 –
Filipe Gil fell to Ave's Davin Hanton in their 1
st set 6-2 but win the 2
nd and 3
rd sets by a socre of 6-3 to grab the 5
th match win of the day and seal the win for the Royals.
Singles #5 –
Henrique Dias battled hard against Cesar Menacho but was unable to win their match, falling 7-4 in the 1
st set and 6-3 in the 2
nd.
Singles #6 –
Bruno Carvalho won his 1
st set against Brandon Valley 7-3 but fell in sets 2 and 3 6-3 & 6-1.
With the win the Royals are now 1-5 on the year and will take on Webber at home this Wednesday February 20
th.
