#24 Warner Softball – Extra Base Hits And Olinger 1-Hit Shutout Leads Royals To Double Header Split With Southeastern

LAKE WALES, Fla. – Brooke Olinger picks up 5thseason win by shutting out the Fire and holding them to just 1-hit in 5-inning run rule. 
 
GAME 1-WU 2, SEU 4
 
Extra base hits helped the Royals head into the 7thinning tied with the Fire 2-2. Ashton Owen, Breyonna Shell, Brittany Winget and Caitlyn Yockey all smacked doubles. The Royals registered 6-hits in the game with four of them being extra base hits. 
 
Southeastern struck first with a Harrell single to right field that scored Moll. Warner answered back with a Caitlyn Yockey double to right center that scored Ashton Owen who had doubled to lead off the inning. 
 
Tied at 1-1, the Fire capitalized on an error in the field by Moll coming across to score giving the Fire a 2-1 lead. 
 
With the first two hitters flying out, Breyonna Shell smacked a double then later advanced on a wild pitch setting her up to score. Brittany Winget stepped in and rifled a line drive over third base that brought Shell in to score.  
 
Unable to get the offense going in the bottom of the 7th, the Royals fell to the Fire by a final score of 2-4.
 
GAME 2-WU 8, SEU 0
 
The story of the game was the effective pitching of Brooke Olinger. Olinger held a very strong Southeastern offense to just 1-hit over 5 innings of work only issuing 3-walks and 1-strikeout.
 
Avery Cotterill fired a double into the left center gap to start things off in the bottom of the 2nd. She was then able to advance on a passed ball and then capitalize on an error that allowed her to score taking a 1-0 lead.  Later in the inning, a Kayleigh Walters single scored Caitlyn Yockey. Then a groundout by Breyonna Shell scored Abigail Oliver who took over for Kaitlyn Ridolph. Then a Fire error with Heslin at the plate allowed Kayleigh Walters to score giving the Royals a 4-0 lead. 
 
In the bottom of the 3rd, again with two outs on the board, Caitlyn Yockey reached base on a single. An Abigail Oliver walk allowed Yockey to advance to 2nd. Then Megan Garfinkel hit an infield single that scored Yockey giving the Royals a 5-0 lead. 
 
Avery Cotterill picked up an RBI in the bottom of the 6thby shooting a singe into left field that scored Breyonna Shell.
The Royals finished off the Fire in the bottom of the 5th. Abigail Oliver connected with a double to left center field. A Sacrifice bunt by Megan Garfinkel moved Oliver to 3rd. Kayleigh Walters reached on a fielders choice that allowed her to advance to 2nd. Then Breyonna Shell smacked a 2-run Triple into the right center gap that scored Oliver and completed the run rule over the Fire. 
 
Warner Softball Notables
 
  • Brooke Olinger improved to (5-1) on the season only surrendering 1-hit to the Fire spread out over 5 innings. 
  • Breyonna Shell has notched an 11-game hit streak with 7 of those games registering a multi-hit effort. 
  • The Royals won their 15thgame overall and their 1stSun Conference Game with the split against the Fire.
