Mount Vernon, GA. – The Warner Royals came into the NCCAA South Regional Championship as the #1 seed and lived up to the standard as they swept their way to second consecutive NCCAA South Regional Championship, winning 3 games by a combined score of 46-21.
With the Royals now claiming the NCCAA South Regional Championship honors, they are headed to the NCCAA World Series for a second straight year. Last year Warner finished in 2
nd place after falling in the NCCAA National Championship Game.
Game 1 (WU 18 – TFC 6)
Warner hit .410 as a team in this win, going 16-39, with
Alex Vazquez leading the Royals in hits with a 3-5 performance.
The Royals also had 5 extra base hits;
Xanders Vazquez had a 2B & 3B, while
Alex Vazquez.
Erich Jaquez, and
Trey Matthews all hit homeruns and each drove in 3 RBI's.
Michael Batten grabbed his 5
th win of the year, pitching 6 innings and striking out 9.
Game 2 (WU 13 – Erskine 7)
Joey Theune earned his 5
th win of the season in a relief effort and pitched 5 1/3 innings, striking out 8.
The Royals hit .421 as team, notching 16 hits yet again on 38 at-bats. Warner boasted 8 extra base hits, including doubles from
Trey Matthews,
Zachary Balogh,
Xanders Vazquez,
Erich Jaquez, and
Ronny Penalo.
Rio Russell had a triple and
Rafael Astacio had a homerun in the win.
Xanders Vazquez led the way for the Royals, going 4-5 in the game with 4 RBI and 2 Runs.
NCCAA South Regional Championship Game (WU 15 – Erskine 8)
Taylor Briggs grabbed his 4
th win of the year, pitching 3 innings and earning the win in a relief appearance.
This game was called in the 6
th inning due to weather but Warner still earned the win because only 5 innings have to be played for the game to be complete.
Warner continued to swing a hot bat as a team, hitting .458 in the Championship game with 4 extra base hits. Two doubles by
Scott Fickas, a double by
Rio Russell and another homerun by
Alex Vazquez.
Zachary Balogh and
Scott Fickas both led the way for the Royals, each earning 3 hits with Fickas notching 4 RBI's.
With the 3 wins the Royals are now 37-21 and are awaiting the final seeding of the NCCAA World Series to see who and when they will play again.
