LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Royals went into overtime for just the third time this season and the second double overtime.
It didn't take long for the Gyrenes to strike first blood as they found the net in the 6
th minute.
A battle ensued back and forth until the 78
th minute when the Royals found the equalizer. It was a loose ball just inside of the box collected by
Francisco Cabrera then fired int the bottom left corner for a goal.
The game remained 1-1 at the end of regulation and went into overtime. The Royals registered the only shot in overtime off the foot of
Dawson Johnson. A final effort corner kick for the Royals fell short and sent the game into double overtime.
Warner saw double overtime only one other time this season against Brewton Parker College and it was the Barons that scored with 3 minutes remaining to win the game 2-1.
After a good battle by both squads, the game ended following a scoreless double overtime. Ave Maria registered 14 shots on goal out of 18 total shots taken leading to a Royals
Kevin Gonzalez season high 13 saves.
The Royals finished off their final home game and senior night with a double overtime tie against Ave Maria. They hit the road to Miami Gardens where they will finish off the regular season against St. Thomas University.
