WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Royals had the offense rolling in their season opening win over Roosevelt. They fell to the Tigers of Olivet Nazarene in game two of the double header.
The Royals started off their season with a bang defeating the Lakers of Roosevelt. 10 hits and capitalizing on four errors by the Lakers led to a Royals 8-0 victory.
Warner used the 3
rd inning to take a 4-0 lead capitalizing on some key errors by the Lakers. In the top of the 4
th,
Sara Bruno added a few more when she cleared the bases with her first homerun of the season.
Kasey Heslin and
Kayleigh Walters scored on the homerun.
Ashton Owen scampered home in the top of the 7
th on a wild pitch that sealed the deal for the Royals as they took the 8-0 victory.
Melanie Rogers started the game for the Royals in the circle. Rogers threw 2 innings only surrendering 2 hits but walking 3.
Tiffany Dodson came in for relief and had a stellar performance. Dodson struck out 12 of the 15 batters she faced over 5 innings of work to earn the win.
Three Royals registered a multi-hit performance in the game.
Kasey Heslin 2-4, 1 run scored,
Sara Bruno 2-3 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI's,
Ashton Owen 2-4, 2 runs scored.
The Royals fell in the second game 3-6 to Olivet Nazarene. The Tigers used 11 hits and 6 runs and held the Royals to just 2 hits and 3 runs.
Sara Bruno and
Kaitlyn Ridolph registered the only hits for the Royals on a couple of sharp line drives through the infield.
Caitlyn Yockey laid down a pair of successful sac bunts.
Alison Yawn and
Kasey Heslin swiped a combined 4 bags for 2 stolen bags each.
Ashton Owen and
Kayleigh Walters also registered a stolen bag in the game.
The Royals will meet Olivet Nazarene again in the morning at 10 a.m. then will take on Roosevelt in a doubleheader starting around 12:30 p.m.
