Warner Softball - Royals Roll Through Mustangs In Home Opening Sweep

LAKE WALES, Fla. - Warner Royals softball used a heavy offense to power through the Mustangs of Western Ontario. Sylvia Welsh struck out 8 in her home debut and Sara Bruno launched her 4th homerun of the season.

 

Game 1 - WU 9, WO 1

 

Sylvia Welsh pitched like a well oiled machine tonight throwing 6 innings, surrendering just 2 hits and striking out 8. 

 

The lone run for the Mustangs came in the top of the 2nd inning when Balas connected for a solo shot. The Royals then sprung open the offensive door and never looked back. Caitlyn Yockey started the scoring off with a double to right center that scored Breyonna Shell in the bottom of the 2nd. In the bottom of the 3rd, Shell singled in Sara Bruno to give the Royals a 2-1 lead. In the bottom of the 4th the Royals again struck pay dirt off a hard line drive double from Kasey Heslin that scored Kaitlyn Ridolph. In the bottom of the 5th Breyonna Shell connected with a triple into right center that scored Ashton Owen. Shell would later score on a wild pitch. The Royals finished off the mercy in the bottom of the 6th when Ashton Owen singled to center field scoring Heslin. Shell hit a sacrifice fly scoring Diana Rayder. Avery Cotterill hit an infield single that scored Owen. Ridolph scored Cotterill to end the inning.

 

Game 2 - WU 10, WO 1

 

Sara Bruno struck first blood for the Royals in the bottom of the first when she connected with her 4th long ball of the season. Bruno would go on to finish the game 1-2 with 3 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Ashton Owen was 2-3 at the plate with 2 doubles, 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Kasey Heslin was 1-3 at the plate with 1 RBI, 2 runs scored and remains a perfect 7-7 in stolen bases. 

 

Tiffany Dodson picked up her third win of the season moving to 3-0 throwing 3 innings and only surrendering 4 hits and striking out 1. 

 

The Royals improve to 6-1 on the season and win their fifth straight game. They take a little over a week off before traveling to Columbus, GA. for another five game weekend.
