Warner Softball – ROYAL Upset In Columbus; Warner Pulls Big Win Over No. 5 Georgia Gwinnett

COLUMBUS, Ga. – Warner Royals softball fell in game one to Bryan College facing tough miscues. They battled back and took down No. 5 Georgia Gwinnett 6-2.
 
Royals 9, Lions 12
 
The Royals plated 9 runs in the game against Bryan. Ashton Owen smacked her first two homeruns of the season finishing the game going 3-3 at the plate with 2 homeruns, 4 RBI's, 3 runs, and 1 walk. Alison Yawn punched a bases loaded triple for her first triple of the season and 3 RBI's. Avery Cotterill finished the game 3-4 with 2 runs scored. Breyonna Shell also had a multiple hit performance going 2-4 with a double.
 
The Royals defense struggled heavily committing five errors. Of the 12 Lions runs scored, only 3 were earned. The Royals took a 9-12 loss in the opening of the NFCA Leadoff Classic.
 
Royals 6, #5 Grizzlies 2
 
Big time upset in Columbus as the Royals turned right around and smacked the No. 5 Grizzlies of Georgia Gwinnett 6-2. Sylvia Welsh improved to 3-1 on the season inside of the circle throwing 7 innings and only surrendering 3 hits in the upset bid.
 
Ashton Owen hit another 2 homeruns against the Grizzlies finishing her day going 5-6 at the plate with 4 homeruns, 8 RBI's and 5 runs scored. Avery Cotterill plated 2 RBI's on a single with runners on second and third that gave the Royals the eventual 6-2 victory.
 
The Royals improved to 7-2 overall on the season splitting the first two games of the NFCA Classic.
 
Warner will have another big test tomorrow with three games against No. 13 Campbellsville, No. 7 Mobile and (RV) Breanu.
