No. 25 Warner Softball – Royals Take Down (RV) Patriots For 6th and 7th Straight Wins

LAKE WALES, Fla. – Offense and crafty pitching prevailed as the Royals knocked off nationally recognized University of the Cumberland's this evening.
 
The Royals took the first game of the double header 4-1 off the strong pitching of Tiffany Dodson. Dodson threw a 7-inning gem spreading out 5 hits and striking out 2 picking up her 7th win of the year.
 
Warner used 8 hits in the contest to earn the 4-1 win. Ashton Owen, Breyonna Shell and Caitlyn Yockey all registered multi-hit performances. Sara Bruno singled in Kayleigh Walters in the bottom of the 1st inning to take the lead 1-0. Avery Cotterill dropped down a sac bunt in the bottom of the 3rd to score Ashton Owen. The Patriots answered in the top of the 5th with a solo homerun. In the bottom of the 5th, Breyonna Shell rifled a single to left field that scored Alison Yawn. The bottom of the 6th saw Kayleigh Walters reaching on an infield error but Caitlyn Yockey was able to score on the play to give the Royals an eventual 4-1 win.
 
The second game was knotted at zero until the top of the 5th when a couple miscues gave the Patriots a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the 6th, the Royals lit up the field starting with an Ashton Owen single that scored Kasey Heslin. Avery Cotterill followed up with a single that scored Sara Bruno. With the game tied at 3-3, Kaitlyn Ridolph hammered a shot to center field that left the yard for a 3-run homer.
 
The Royals held the lead as Sylvia Welsh finished a phenomenal 7 innings spreading out 1 earned run and 6 hits while sitting down 8 on strikes.
 
The Royals earned their 14th and 15th victories on the season and carry a NAIA No. 25 ranking. They open up The Sun Conference play with a big matchup against the University of South Carolina Beaufort on Saturday with first pitch scheduled at 11:00 a.m.
