LAKE WALES, Fla. – Warner proved lethal through the air in a Crooked Lake rivalry victory over the Warriors 24-17.
It was a slow first quarter for the Royals as the Warriors were the first to strike on a 49-yard field goal by Austin Smith.
The Royals answered in the opening minutes of the second quarter with a
Santiago Tovar field goal that was good from 37-yards.
With two minutes left to play in the first half, Cody Braden of the Warriors broke loose for a 26-yard run and a Webber touchdown. The Royals would enter halftime trailing the Warriors 3-10.
The Royals finally got the wheels turning late in the third quarter when
Dylan Blair connected on a 12-yard pass for a touchdown to
Trevon Jackson tying the game. (10-10) At the start of the fourth quarter,
Dylan Blair threw his second TD of the game this time connecting with freshman
Malachi McNealy for 14-yards and the first career TD for McNealy. (17-10)
On the following drive by the Warriors, Royals DB
Jalen Jones jumped up and intercepted a pass from Cody Braden and returned it for 42-yards. After a loss of 3-yards,
Dylan Blair dropped back and threw his third TD of the day this time to senior WR
Andre Tommie for a 19-yard connection.
The Royals may have started slow, but they hit the gas in the second half and never looked back.
Javon Wilson rushed for 99-yards with a long of 14-yards.
Dylan Blair completed 15 of 24 attempts on the day throwing for 141-yards and 3 TD's.
Trevon Jackson led the way for the receiving core with 4 receptions for 44-yards and a TD.
AJ Robinson and
Kama Jackson III tied with 7 total tackles each to lead the way for the defense.
The Royals grabbed their season opening victory on the road against Webber. They improve to 1-0 and will have a bye next week before taking on Ave Maria the following week.
