Warner Football – Final Second Field Goal Spells Heartbreak For Royals

AVE MARIA, Fla. – The Royals took the field in their second straight away game to open the 2020 campaign. It was a final second's field goal by Ave Maria that decided the fate of the game.
 
The Royals struck first with a 25-yard field goal that sailed through the uprights by Santiago Tovar.
 
Trailing 3-10, Dylan Blair connected with Trevon Jackson for an 8-yard TD that finished an 11 play 80-drive. The TD was the pairs second connection this season.
 
Javon Wilson busted loose for a 39-yard scamper into the endzone later in the second quarter to give the Royals a 17-14 lead. The TD was Wilsons first of the season in a game where he tallied 150-yards off just 16 carries for a 9.4-yard per carry average in the game. Wilson has rushed for 100+ yards in each of the Royals opening two games.
 
Dylan Blair and Trevon Jackson strengthened their relationship linking up again for an 11-yard TD.
 
Five minutes later, the Royals took a 31-23 lead over the Gyrenes when Dylan Blair found Keon Brown for a 67-yard dash into the endzone for the Royals longest play of the season thus far.
 
Ave Maria used the fourth quarter to climb back into the game where eventually, Derek McCormick nailed a 24-yard field goal in the final second of the game to seal the win for the Gyrenes.
 
Despite some early season miscues, Dylan Blair threw 14-23 in completions for 237-yards, 3 TD's and 1 interception.
 
Javon Wilson tore up the Gyrenes defensive line piercing threw for 150-yards and a TD with his longest rush of the season of 42-yards.
 
Michael Baskin led the Royals receiving core last night with 5 receptions for 73-yards. Trevon Jackson totaled 3 catches for 33-yards and 2 TD's.
 
Kiron Brown tallied 8 total tackles with 7 of them being solo. The Royals registered 5 different defenders with pass breakups.
 
Santiago Tovar remains perfect on the season as he knocked through 4-4 point after attempts and also made his second field goal attempt of the season.
 
The Royals will bring it home next weekend to face St. Thomas University. The game will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday located in Winter Haven, Fla. At Denison Field.
