(19) Warner Softball - Royals Sweep (11) Campbellsville With Powerful Offensive Display

LAKE WALES, Fla. - Warner University softball swept (11) Campbellsville to improve to 6-0 to start their season. This extends the Royals combined winning streak to 17 straight games.

 

The first game of the double header was mainly played on Thursday night before weather forced the postponement. The game was halted in the bottom of the sixth inning and restarted this morning. 

 

GAME 1

 

Campbellsville struck first drawing a bases loaded walk in the top of the first. 

 

The Royals leveled things out in the bottom of the first when Breyonna Shell grounded in Katelyn Richards. In the bottom of the third inning, Shell again came through with a 2 RBI base knock up the middle scoring Richards and Alison Yawn. Sara Bruno rounded out the Royals bottom of the third with a single that scored Shell.

 

Breyonna Shell plated her 4th RBI of the game in the bottom of the fifth when she hit a sacrifice fly that scored Richards from third and gave the Royals a 5-1 lead. 

 

The Tigers hit a solo homerun in the top of the sixth right before the rain delay to leave the score at 5-2 and a Royals lead. Upon resume of play this morning, the Tigers added another run in the top of the seventh but we halted as the Royals took the game 5-3.

 

Three Royals had three players finish the game with a multi-hit performance. Katelyn Richards was 2-3 with 3 runs scored and 2 triples. Sara Bruno went 2-3 with an RBI. Jennifer Bryant was also 2-3 with a pair of base hits. The Tigers were left Shell shocked as she finished the game 1-2 with 4 RBI's, a sacrifice fly and a run scored.

 

Tiffany Dodson earned the win inside of the circle for her third season win. She threw 7 innings spreading out 6 hits and striking out 3. 

 

GAME 2

 

The Royals offense fired up in game two plating 11 runs. Six different Royals registered multi-hit performances. Still Shell shocked from game one, Breyonna Shell added to her totals going 2-4 with 2 more RBI's and a run scored. Sara Bruno went 3-4 at the plate with 2 RBI's and a run scored. Ashton Owen went 2-3 with 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored with a walk. 

 

The Royals put up a massive 10 hit 9 run inning in the bottom of the fifth. Katelyn Richards and Ashton Owen both tripled and Breyonna Shell and Sara Bruno both doubled in the inning along with 6 base hits by the Royals as they batted around. The Royals strung together seven straight hits to start the inning. 

Kara Bradley started in the circle for Warner, unfortunately the Tigers forced Bradely out of the game after an inning and a third surrendering 8 hits. Michaela Boelens took over throwing two and two thirds spreading out 4 hits, 3 runs and walking 4. Tiffany Dodson came in and finished the game throwing three innings only giving up 3 hits and striking out 3 to earn her fourth win of the season (4-0). 

 

Warner improves to 6-0 having taken down NAIA (11) Campbellsville twice. They also extend their winning streak dating back to last season to 17 straight. The Royals have not lost at home since April of 2019 improving their home winning streak to 16-0.
