LAKE WALES, Fla. - A streak that started last season, the Royals have now extended to a 15 game winning streak with tonight's double header sweep over the Patriots.
Warner took on the University of the Cumberlands this evening and came away with two more wins following the double header sweep. Cumberlands falls to 2-2 overall while the Royals improve to 4-0.
The first game was narrow with all of the Royals run support coming in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kelly Dwyer doubled in Sara Bruno. Jennifer Bryant shot a single through the right rise and scored Dywer. Jenna Lester stepped in with a pinch hit single that scored Bryant. The Royals held their ground and came away with the 3-0 victory.
Kara Bradley picked up her first win as a Royal completing the 7 inning shutout only surrendering 6 hits and striking out 1 with no walks.
GAME 2
The Royals wasted no time scoring four of their six runs in the bottom of the first inning. Breyonna Shell reached on a ground ball that allowed Alison Yawn to score. Sara Bruno stepped in and delivered a hard line drive down the right field line that scored Shell from first. Kelly Dwyer hit a sharp single into center field that scored Sara Bruno later in the inning. With bases loaded, Madison Ioia drew a walked that forced a run across the plate to give the Royals a 4-0 advantage.
The Royals added another run in the bottom of the second with a sacrifice fly off the bat of Breyonna Shell that again scored Alison Yawn. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Warner plated their last run of the game with a hard single up the middle by Katelyn Richards that generated a run from Kasey Heslin.
The Patriots scored two in the fifth and one in the sixth to cut the Royals lead in half 6-3.
Tiffany Dodson improved to 2-0 spreading out 8 hits and 3 strikeouts over 5.2 innings. Kara Bradley came in for relief for the Royals and notched the save throwing 1.1 innings and only giving up two hits.
The Royals will complete their double header against Campbellsville University Saturday morning starting at 10:00 a.m.
