LAKE WALES, Fla. – Warner swept Calumet College of St. Joseph tonight with a powerful pitching display backed up with a resilient offense.
Kasey Heslin got the scoring started for the Royals in the bottom of the first inning in game one. With
Alison Yawn on first base,
Kasey Heslin rifled a ball down the first baseline that rolled all the way into the corner, Heslin legged out an inside the park homerun that didn't even garner a throw to the plate.
Kelly Dwyer later singled up the middle that scored
Sara Bruno. The Royals took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
In the bottom of the third,
Breyonna Shell #shellshocked the Crimson Wave with a double to deep left center that scored
Sara Bruno. Later in the inning, with bases loaded full of Royals and two outs on the board,
Alison Yawn hit a sharp liner down the left field line that rolled to the corner for a grand slam scoring
Madison Ioia,
Payton Pilon and Kelley Dwyer.
Warner added on in the fourth inning when
Katelyn Richards hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored
Ashton Owen.
Tiffany Dodson picked up her 9
th win of the season improving to 9-3 overall. She pitched the 5-inning complete game striking out 7 on the way.
Warner took game one with a run-rule mercery over the Crimson Wave. They continued their dominance into the second game where they held the Crimson Wave hitters to just five total hits.
Madison Ioia struck first blood for the Royals scoring
Breyonna Shell on a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the second inning. In the bottom of the third inning,
Breyonna Shell hit a single that scored
Ashton Owen.
Madison Ioia singled to left field later in the inning that scored
Jennifer Bryant and
Kelly Dwyer. Finishing off a six run bottom of the third,
Kasey Heslin did the unthinkable and again hit a three run inside the park homerun scoring
Madison Ioia and
Kelly Dwyer. The inside the park homerun was Heslins second of the night.
Arianna Arroyo earned the first win of her young career. She threw the complete seven inning game spreading out 5 hits, 2 runs and 6 strikeouts.
Warner will shift focus again to when they travel to Kissimme on Tuesday of next week.
