(19) Warner Softball – Royals Break 15th Win Mark With Pair Of Victories In Kissimmee Spring Games

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – (19) Royals took down the University of Northwestern Ohio and Dordt College in the Kissimmee Spring Games doubleheader this afternoon.
 
GAME 1
 
Today marked the first ever game on the softball field between the Royals and Racers. Warner got on the board early then cruised to a 4-1 victory.
 
Aston Owen reached on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the first that scored Alison Yawn. Breyonna Shell added the second run for the Royals in the bottom of the first with a sharp base hit up the middle that scored Ashton Owen
 
In the bottom of the third, Breyonna Shell flashed the bat again with a hard hit through the right side of the field that scored Katelyn Richards. Sara Bruno added the Royals 4th run of the game with a ground ball RBI that scored Ashton Owen.
 
Breyonna Shell was the only Royals to register multiple hits in the game, she finished game one 3-3 at the plate with 2 RBI's. Alison Yawn reached a couple of times with 2 walks. Alison Yawn swiped two bags in the game, Ashton Owen and Madison Servo each stole a bag also.
 
Tiffany Dodson continued her NAIA national lead, adding another to the win column. She threw the complete 7 innings spreading out just 4 hits and striking out 2 giving up just 1 run.
 
Warner improved to 14-5 on the season with the win.
 
GAME 2
 
The Royals and Defenders of Dordt College had only met one time previously on the softball field and that was back on March 13th of 2010. The Royals edged out the Defenders in a close matchup taking the win 3-2.
 
Warner has now improved on that mark and moved to 2-0 after defeating the Defenders with the final score of 6-3.
 
Ashton Owen opened up the Royals offense with a single to right field for an RBI in the top of the third inning. Breyonna Shell added a ground ball for yet another RBI to her NAIA leading RBI's scoring Katelyn Richards. The Defenders tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the third.
 
In the top of the fourth, Kasey Heslin broke the tie with a sharp line drive into left field that scored Jennifer Bryant. Later in the inning, Katelyn Richards hit into a sac fly to score Madison Ioia.
 
The scoring was halted until the top of the seventh when Ashton #Owenstrong laid into a pitch and sent it flying over the left center fence for a solo shot. The next batter, Breyonna #ShellShocked the Defenders when she lifted a ball the other way for an opposite field homerun for back to back shots for the Royals.
 
Warner took the 6-3 victory over the Defenders and it was Kara Bradley that earned her second win of the season. Bradley tossed the complete 7 innings spreading out 8 hits and striking out 3. Kara Bradley improves to 2-1 on the season.
 
(19) Warner brings the bats back home for a doubleheader against Florida National University on Thursday at 4 & 6. The Royals improve to 15-5 on the season with the double win today.
