LAKE WALES, Fla - Royals Men's Basketball hosted their season home opener tonight in Lake Wales, Fla against Florida National University.
Tonight, our Men's Basketball team has their home opener against Florida National College for their first game of the season. This Royal team is coached by Head Coach
Sean Hanrahan going into his 18th season as Head Coach of the MBB team here at Warner. Tonight's starting lineup was
Blaize Darling Jr.,
Logan West,
Christian Nurse,
Josh Glesil, and
Jamal Norris. In the 1st Half, the Royals came out slow with the first points of the night coming from Freshman Skyler Scrull 3 minutes into the half. After he breaks the ice the Royals shots begin to fall taking the lead with 16:00 mins on the game clock. Once the Royals took control they controlled the tempo of the game eventually building onto their lead with their biggest lead being 36-23 with 3 mins left in the 1st Half of play.
Christian Nurse this first half stood out with 6 rebounds and 8 points this first half of play taking the Royals into the half 38-31. Coming into the second Florida National came out with a chip on their shoulder and brought themselves back into the game slowing the Royals offense down. With the lead changing 4 times in the 2nd Half the Royals dug deep and with 12:03 left in the 2nd Half
Logan West made both free throws to bring the Royals back in the lead for the final time leading 50-48. In this final half of the game Blaize Darling has an impressive 10 points, 1 steal, and 3 rebounds bringing the Royals to the finish line winning the Home Opener 74-71 in tonight's back to back thriller. The Royals keep the first game of the season Winning streak alive.
