JUPITER, Fla - The Warner Royals traveled up I-75 to Gainesville, FL to compete in the Jimmy Carnes Invitational at the Alachua County Sports and Events Center at Celebration Pointe Indoor Track and Field Complex. The Women traveled a total of 3 athletes to Officially start the 2024 Indoor Campaign.
Geri Hererra,
Nicole Johnson and
Stacy White were tasked with representing the Royal Women on this opening weekend.
Geri Herrera, improved her 60m Dash to 6.96 for a 20th place performance. In the 200m, she crossed the line at 26.22 good enough for 7th place over all in the meet. "We believe Geri is going to be NEXT in the great line of female sprinters that we want Warner to be known for! She just has to keep believing in herself and executing the tasks her coaches lay before her." Says Coach Stamps
Nicole Johnson, wasted no time on her essential last lap of a storied Track and Field Career. Nicole blazed to a 4th place performance and a final time of 7.54 in the 60m Dash. Her time of 7.54 is the 3rd best time in the Country currently among all NAIA Athletes. "Nicole, in her last year of eligibility has a goal of winning it all! I believe this performance showcases that she is on the right path" says Coach Stamps.
Stacy White, had a whirlwind 45min as she competed in the Long Jump, 60m and 60m Hurdles all in a 40min span. She finished 14th in the 60m Hurdles, 25th in the 60m Dash and 16th in the 200m Dash and no mark in the Long Jump. Her 60m Hurdle performance moved her into 6th place on the Sun Conference List. "Stacy, has an amazing upside and as she figures out the technical aspects of her events she will become a great asset to our program" says Coach Stamps.
The silver lining in this meet per our marks, we are 3 weeks ahead of where we were this time last season and that is a tribute to the sacrifice and the commitment of these young people and our staff. We will be back in action January 26-27, 2024 with the full teams for the Florida College Invitational.
Coaches Corner:
Coach Rivers on Geri: "All in all not to bad for an opener, she still has some things to iron out but please believe once we do she will punch her ticket to North Dakota!"
Coach Rivers on Nicole: "It was a very nice opener for Nicole. She opened up last year this same weekend with 7.74 a year later 7.54. We have really been working on her starts and she executed that segment of the race really well. Now we go back to the lab and continue to work."
Coach Goss on Stacy: "Many freshman collegiate athletes are apprehensive in first indoor events; Stacy was a competitor. Her Jumps were aggressive and we saw signs that good things lie ahead."
