WSOC: Royals Fall Short Against SUN Conference Opponent Ave Maria Gyrenes, 2-0

AVE MARIA, FL - Warner University's women's soccer team faced a tough match on October 5, 2024, as they were defeated 2-0 by Ave Maria (FL) in a critical SUN Conference matchup. The game, held in Ave Maria, FL, saw the Royals battle hard against the Gyrenes but ultimately fall short in securing a win.

Despite a strong defensive performance in the first half, keeping the scoreline at a stalemate of 0-0, the Royals were unable to hold off Ave Maria's offensive onslaught in the second half. The deadlock was broken at the 49:15 mark when Rachel Dalton, assisted by Ava Conforti, found the back of the net to give Ave Maria the lead. Kana Mateaki later solidified the Gyrenes' victory with a second goal at 80:12, leaving the Royals to reconsider their strategies as the match concluded.

The Warner goalie, Haley Houweling, faced significant pressure throughout the game, and despite the loss, showcased resilience against Ave Maria's attackers. Looking forward, Warner University's women's soccer team aims to bounce back when they host the Florida National Conquistadors at Royals Soccer Field in Lake Wales, FL, on October 9, 2024. With a current season record of 3-5-1, and 0-4 in the conference, the Royals are eager to turn their fortunes around and climb up the standings.
