LAKE WALES,FL- The Royals faced off against the (#20) Freed-Hardeman University Lions as they looked for their first wins of the season in a doubleheader on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.
In game one, the Royals started off strong as
Tyler Mooring would single in the first run for the Royals as they would tie the game against the Lions 1-1. In the top of the third,
Jordan Moore would double on a hard hit ground ball rolling to the water as
Raelyn Roland would score putting the Royals up by one. The Royals would extend their lead in the bottom of the 4th, as a throwing error by the Lions' would bring in Jasmynn Mckinney and a few batters later
Andrea Rebello would single to right field scoring in
Autumn Calcagno. However in the top half of the fifth the Lions would take the lead as Deere would hit a three run homerun to center field giving the Lions the lead against the Royals. However, the Royals would start to rally in the 6th inning as Moore would tie the game due to a base hit up the middle scoring Roland tying the game at five a piece. Later on in the inning with two outs and bases loaded, McKinney would come through as she doubled to the left center gap scoring in
Grace Derstine,
Tyler Mooring, and Moore giving the Royals a 8 to 5 lead. The Royals would score one more run as McKinney would score on a throwing error by the Lions. The Royals would retire the Lions easily in the top of the 7th, as
Allie Hughes would pick up her first win after 3 strong innings of relief.
Coming off a strong game one win, the Royals looked to complete the sweep against the Lions. The Royals would keep up the momentum from the game one victory as McKinney would draw a bases loaded walk bringing in the first run of the game for the Royals. In the bottom of the third, Mooring doubled into the right center gap scoring in the pinch runner
Remy Camp followed by McKinney with an RBI single to right field scoring to Mooring. In the fourth inning, Mooring would have her second hit of the game as she would single in two runs putting the Royals up 5 to zero. The Lions would score two runs in the top of the fifth courtesy of an infield single followed by an error by the Royals. In the sixth inning, the Royals would add an insurance run as Derstine doubled to right center scoring Moore. The Lions would score one more run in the top of the 7th inning, but your Royals would prevent a comeback as Hughes would close out the door on the Lions and complete the sweep for the Royals. The Royals look to extend their two game win streak as they face off against Florida National University on February 13th at 4:00 PM.
