LAKE WALES, FL - Warner University men's volleyball hosted their first Royals vs. Alumni game in their 20th year of the program's history. Current Royals team made their 2024 debut in an exhibition match against former Warner players at the Tuner Athletic Center on January 17th 2024. The Alumni game featured pass WU players. The Alumni team came on top with a 3-2 victory over the current Royals.
The current Royals quickly took a 1-0 lead, but it was followed by two straight sets wins by the Alumni team. Current Royals battled back, winning the 4th set forcing a 5th set tie breaker. At the end, experience imposed over the young Royals as the Alumni team won the 5th set.
Augusto Araujo-Silva led the Alumni team in attack kills supported by Frankie Zamora as he led the team in assists. Audrey Alejandro contributed by leading the Alumni in digs and serve receive contacts.
"This match was overdue. Since my first day as Warner's head coach I have wanted to put together this event. This game creates connections and relationships between our current student-athletes and our former program members. Our goal is to make this a grand event that becomes tradition and involves as many alumni as possible. I invite any former player to reach out as we are creating a database to coordinate future events." Coach Pedro said.
