LAKE WALES, Fla - The Royals hosted the Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles looking for their third win of the season.
Coming off a weekend where the Royals split their two games against the Phoenix and the Warriors, they looked for a win against the visiting Eagles. The Royals who had a strong performance from their offense continued their hot bats in this game. The Royals struck first as Auston Chisenhal singled to right scoring in
Luis Cedeno opening the scoring for the Royals early on. In the bottom of the second,
Jhenzel Figueroa would ground out bringing
J.J Gonzalez and later on in the inning,
John Malcom singled in Chisenhal for the second run of the game. Heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, Chisenhal hit a sacrifice fly scoring Cedeno; a few batters later
Danny Garcia would hit his first home run of the season bringing the Royals up by 5. The Eagles would battle back in this game as their offense would wake up as they scored and would tie the game in the top of the fifth due to a 2 run single followed by a 3 run home run tying the game at 5 a piece. The Eagles took the lead on a groundout in the top half of the 6th but the Royals would tie it back up as
Diego Guevara would hit a sacrifice fly tying the game at 6 to 6. Following this, Devane would single, and with two runners on
Drachir Lugo would pinch hit resulting in him launching his first homerun of the season giving the Royals an electric three run lead over the Eagles. The Eagles would score another run in the 7th due to a wild pitch bringing them down by two. In the top of the ninth, the Eagles scored on a sacrifice fly and were down by one. Senior
Ryley Rozar would force a game-ending groundout securing the Royals third win of the season by a score of 9-8. The Royals look forward to this weekend as they face off against Montreat College for a 4 game series starting on February 9th at 3:00 PM.
