RECAP: Royals Show Fight in 34-27 SUN Conference Opener Against Webber International

Babson Park, FL – In a hard-fought SUN Conference opener, the Warner Royals fell 34–27 to host Webber International. The contest featured multiple momentum swings and late-game tension, but Warner came up just short in its effort to open conference play with a victory.

Game Highlights & Flow

  • Webber struck first with a 9-yard passing touchdown in the opening quarter. Warner responded in the second quarter with a 4-yard run by R.L. Ward III and later a 41-yard field goal from Ethan Silva to trim the halftime deficit to 20–10.

  • The Warriors extended their lead before halftime with a 29-yard run and a fumble recovery score, putting pressure on Warner heading into the break.

  • In the third quarter, Warner cut into the lead again as Ward III punched in his second rushing touchdown.

  • Warner continued to battle in the fourth quarter, mounting a late push, but Webber's defense held firm in key moments to preserve their edge.

Royals Category Leaders

  • Rushing (Team Net): 130 yards — Warner's ground game showed consistency and determination.

  • Rushing Touchdowns: R.L. Ward III — 2 scores on short-yardage runs.

  • Field Goals: Ethan Silva — connected on a 41-yard attempt.

  • Receiving / Big Play: Cameron Miller — had a key reception in the passing game.

  • Tackles (Defensive): Segjier Lane — led the defense in stops.

Observations & Takeaways

Warner's offense found success in the trenches, especially on the ground, and the double rushing scores from Ward III reflected resilience and physicality in short-yardage and red-zone situations. The willingness to run and finish drives kept Warner within striking distance throughout.

Defensively, the Royals made plays and often forced Webber into longer drives. But a combination of turnovers, special teams mishaps, and untimely stops in the fourth quarter gave Webber enough room to manage the game late.

This game reinforced both the positives and challenges ahead in conference play: maintaining composure in tight moments, executing in critical downs, and capitalizing on opportunities when they present themselves.

The Royals return home to face SUN Conference Opponent, St. Thomas University, October 11th at 3pm (Lakeland Christian School, Lakeland, FL).
