RECAP: Royals Compete Strong in BPC Classic, Closes Weekend With First Win of 2025-26 Season

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – The Warner University Men's Basketball team wrapped up its opening weekend of the 2025-26 season with two hard-fought performances at the BPC Classic, hosted by Brewton-Parker College. After a narrow overtime loss on Friday night to the host Barons, the Royals bounced back on Saturday with an impressive victory over Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC), marking their first win of the season.

Day 1 – Brewton-Parker 78, Warner 75 (OT)

Warner opened the classic with a gritty overtime battle against Brewton-Parker, ultimately falling 78-75 in a back-and-forth contest.

Sopohmore-guard Bryson Castillo led the Royals offensively with 24 points on 9-of-21 shooting, including three three-pointers, while adding nine rebounds. Seth Childers paced the team with six assists and four steals, keeping the offense moving and pressuring the Barons' backcourt. Jamal Norris and Josh Irwin each recorded a block as the Royals battled to the end in their second consecutive overtime game to open the season.

As a team, Warner shot 40.3% from the floor (29-72), 28.6% from three (10-35), and 53.8% from the free-throw line (7-13).

Day 2 – Warner 74, ABAC 56

Warner responded with focus and energy on Saturday, defeating ABAC 74-56 to close out the tournament on a high note.

Grad-forward Josh Irwin powered the Royals with a dominant effort, scoring 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting while pulling down eight rebounds. Childers once again led the offense with four assists, while Akeem Dauphin and Jamal Norris provided a defensive spark with three steals apiece. Dauphin also contributed two blocks as the Royals locked down defensively, holding ABAC to just 56 points.

Warner shot an efficient 53.7% from the field (29-54) and 70.6% from the line (12-17), showing composure and consistency throughout the matchup.

With the BPC Classic complete, the Royals move to 1-2 on the season and will look to continue their momentum as they prepare for more upcoming non-conference action.
