SB: Royals Fall to Augustana Vikings in Regular Season Double Header, 0-2

LAKE WALES, FL - In a regular season doubleheader, Warner University's softball team suffered a tough loss at home against Augustana College Vikings, finishing with a score of 8-1, and 16-4 on March 29, 2025, in Lake Wales, Fla.

GAME 1, L (8-1)
The Royals opened the scoring right in the 1st inning when Grace Derstine hit a single for an RBI, bringing in Remy Camp for the sole Warner run of the game. Despite this positive start, the Vikings quickly took control in the 2nd inning, scoring three runs and consistently held the lead for the remainder of the game.

Keirsten Garman started as pitcher for Warner, facing tough competition throughout the game. Recognition for effort in the Warner camp included Derstine, who not only drove in the team's single run but also managed a highlight hit, and Camp, who scored.

GAME 2, L (16-4)
The Royals tried to mount a comeback early in the game, putting up a promising four runs in the second inning, which trimmed Augustana's lead to 7-4. Key players such as Jillian Hudson, Meagan Bruns, Mackenzie Vargas, and April Dominguez contributed to the scoring, giving hope to the Royals. However, despite efforts from Vargas, who not only scored but also knocked in a run, and Diana Martin, who also drove in a run, Warner could not sustain their momentum.

Starting pitcher Tyler Mooring faced a tough game as Augustana's hitters proved too formidable. No home runs were recorded for Warner in this game, further indicating the challenges at bat. Despite the loss, noted performances included Vargas with her two hits and an RBI, and Martin, whose game efforts included an RBI despite being caught stealing.

The Royals, now standing at a 9-19 overall record with a 2-10 in the SUN conference, are looking to regroup and focus on their next encounter. They will face the St. Thomas Bobcats at Daly Field on April 4, 2025, hoping to turn around their fortunes and improve their season standings.
