LAKE WALES, Fla. - The Warner Men's Basketball team held the College of Coastal Georgia to only 60 points in the Royals win on Saturday. Coastal Georgia's 60 points is the least points that the Royals have allowed in a single game this season.
The Royals lead from start to finish in Saturday's SUN Conference rematch with the College of Coastal Georgia Mariners, winning 72-60. Warner's defense paired with high scoring performances from
Bryson Castillo and
Marcel Pace helped the Royals in securing their 2nd Conference win of the season. The Royals defense held the Mariners to well below their game averages in overall shooting (46%), 3-point shooting (36.6%), and points per game (79.4), holding them to 40.7% shooting overall and 23.1% from 3-point range.
Castillo lead the Royals in scoring on Saturday with
24 points, which is the 8th time this season that the Sophomore has scored 20 or more points in a game. The Florida native also added
8 rebounds and
1 steal in a strong overall performance against a good Mariner team. Pace recorded a
career-high 20 points going 4-for-8 overall, 2-for-6 from 3-point range, and a game high 10-13 from the Free Throw Line. The Sophomore Guard also recorded
7 rebounds, (tying his career-high),
5 assists and
1 steal in the SUN Conference bout.
Warner shot 22-for-54 (40.7%) from the field, 6-24 (25.0%) from beyond the 3-point arc, and 22-27 (81.5%) at the charity stripe in Saturday's win. The Royals continue to show their strength and aggression in attacking the basket drawing 27 Free Throws and scoring 26 points in the paint.
The Royals will look to build off today's defensive performance when they travel south to face Florida Memorial University next week.
