RECAP: Royals Sweep Florida Memorial to Earn 1st SUN Series Win of the Season

LAKE WALES, Fla. - The Royals earned their 1st SUN Conference Series win of the season in dominant fashion, sweeping the 3 games series against Florida Memorial University. Warner picked up where they left off on Wednesday winning by run rule with a 8-to-0 win in 5 Innings before taking the final game of the series by a score of 7-to-1.

Game 1: Royals Win 8-0 in 5 Innings
The Royals offense was dominant in Wednesday's opening game scoring in all 5 Innings en route to their 1st win by run rule this season. April Dominguez got the scoring started for the Royals with a RBI double into left center field to bring home Diana Martin for the first run of the game. Alisha Wagoner followed that up by hitting an RBI triple into left field that scored Dominguez before Wagoner was able to score on a wild pitch during the next at-bat. Dominguez drove in her 2nd RBI of the game in the 2nd Inning when she drove in Martin on an infield single to the 2nd baseman.

In the 3rd Inning the Royals took advantage of a wild pitch to score their 5th run of the game scored by Grace Derstine. Jillian Hudson drove in 2 more runs in the 4th Inning when she hit a 2 RBI Triple that drove in Dominguez and Wagoner to give the Royals a 7-0 lead after 4 Innings. The Royals scored their game winning run in the 5th when Derstine was able to take advantage of an error by the Lions to give the Royals an 8 run lead to end the game by run rule.

Elle Hernandez had a tremendous game in the circle throwing 5 shutout Innings while allowing only 3 hits in the win. Including yesterday's 3 Inning appearance, Hernandez threw 5 perfect consecutive Innings against the Lions before allowing a hit in 3rd Inning of Wednesday's 1st game. The Sophomore also tied her career single game strikeout record with 7 strikeouts in today's shutout win.

Game 2: Royals Win 7-1
FMU got the jump on the Royals in game 2 taking a 1-0 lead after the 2nd Inning, but after a quiet opening 3 Innings on offense the Royals were able to breakthrough in the 4th. Abby Faircloth drove in Derstine for the tying run when she hit an infield single to 3rd base. The Royals added 2 more runs in the 5th off another RBI Triple from Hudson that scored Autumn Calcagno and on an RBI single from Derstine to get Hudson home safely. Warner pulled away in the 6th as the Royals aggressive base running forced an error by the Lions that saw Martin and Dominguez score on a ball that was put into play by Alisha Wagoner. Wagoner scored soon after when Meagan Bruns reached on an error and the Royals final run of the game was driven in on a Derstine RBI single that scored Hudson.

Hernandez continued her dominant series against the Lions in the series finale. Throwing 4.1 Innings out of the bullpen, Hernandez allowed only 1 hit and 1 walk as she ended the series throwing a total of 12.2 shutout Innings with 2 wins.

The Royals will to continue their winning streak this weekend when they travel to New College of Florida for another SUN Conference series this weekend.
