LAKE WALES, Fla. - The Royals were able to bounce back on Saturday with a dominant win over (RV) Keiser University to secure a split in the weekend's SUN Conference series. Following a 2 run 1st Inning for the Seahawks the Royals settled in to dominate the remainder of the game scoring 10 unanswered runs against a fringe Top 25 program.
Ethan Pues got the Royals on the board in the 2nd Inning hitting his team leading 5th Home Run of the season to left field to cut the Seahawk lead to 1. The Royals aggressive base running helped manufacture their 2nd run of the game during the 3rd Inning when
Jacob Gumieny forced a throwing error on his steal of 2nd to place him on 3rd before scoring on a wild pitch during the same at-bat. Warner's offense rallied in the 4th Inning to take the lead with a 5 run Inning. The Royals first runs of the Inning came from more aggressive base running following an errant throw by the Seahawks pitcher on a
Timothy Dunn sac-bunt attempt that lead to Pues and
Paddy Smith reaching home safely. Two batters later,
Gabriel Rodriguez recorded his 50th hit of the year with a 2 RBI triple into right field scoring both Dunn and
Carlito Collins. Rodriguez would later come in to score on a
Dawson Schumann Sacrifice fly to left field. Warner added 3 more insurance runs in the 8th Inning coming from an RBI single by Collins that scored Schumann and a 2 RBI single by Smith that scored Collins and
Adriel Torres-Gonzalez to give the Royals 10 runs.
Warner's pitching staff was on fire in Saturday's game throwing a combined 1 hitter and striking out 8 Seahawks to secure the team's 21st win of the season. Returning from injury,
Trenton Chenard took the mound to start for the Royals allowing 2 runs on no hits while striking out 4 through 4 Innings of work. Despite missing time due to injury, Chenard crossed the 40 strike out mark in Saturday's game and increased his season total to a team leading 42 strike outs.
Evan Christ earned the win on Saturday throwing 3 Innings in relief allowing no runs on 1 hit and struck out 4.
Austin Vakiener and
