FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Royals opened up their post-season campaign on Thursday night against the #3 seeded Keiser University in the 1st round of The Sun Conference Tournament. Despite driving in 11 runs in the 6th Inning, Warner was unable to fend off the high powered Seahawks offense and fell by a final score of 15-to-13.
Warner opened up the scoring in the 1st Inning driving in 2 early runs RBI's hit by
Danny Garcia and
Adriel Torres-Gonzalez.
Danny Garcia hit a single into left field to score
Gabriel Rodriguez for the 1st run of the game while Torres-Gonzalez earned an RBI after driving in Garcia on a productive groundout later in the Inning. Keiser would later take an 8-to-2 lead after scoring runs in the 3rd, 4th and 5th Innings. The Royals answered the Seahawks in a massive way, scoring 11 runs in the top of the 6th Inning and retake the lead. Warner's 11 run 6th Inning tied the team's season high for runs scored in a single Inning, which the Royals recorded on April 17th on the road against New College of Florida.
Dawson Schumann opened the scoring in the 6th with a 2 RBI single to center that saw Carlitto Collins and
Timothy Dunn reach home safely. Garcia recorded his 2nd RBI of the game soon after driving in Rodriguez on an RBI double. Torres-Gonzalez followed that up with a 2 RBI double of his own to get Schumann and Garcia home before
Paddy Smith earned an RBI by reaching on a fielder's choice that scored
Jacob Gumieny.
JD Swarbrick added to the Royals total with a 2 RBI that saw
Ethan Pues and Smith score which was followed up by a Rodriguez 2 RBI single that brought home Collins and
Timothy Dunn. Gumieny earned the final RBI of the Inning when he drew a bases-loaded walk to get Rodriguez home and give the Royals a 13-to-8 lead.
Despite the impressive offensive Inning, the Royals were unable to fend off the Seahawks over the next few Innings and would fall 15-to-13. Warner will look to bounce back tomorrow as they fend off elimination when they take on the #1 seeded Webber International University.
