LAKE WALES, Fla. - The Royals Women's Soccer team created history on Saturday against NCCAA opponent, Trinity College of Jacksonville, recording their best ever start to a season with a record of 4-0-0.
Elisabet Rosario and
Gianna Bellomo lead the Royals on the offensive side of the field with 2 goals each in what ended as a 6-to-1 win for the Royals.
Warner wasted no time at all to get on the scoreboard, using the kickoff to get the ball deep into their offensive third of the field before Rosario hit a one-touch shot into the top left corner of the goal from 25 yards out to give the Royals a 1-to-0 lead only 33 seconds into the match. The Royals continued to press the Eagles and once again found the back of the net when
Miya Sikhakhane made an incredible chip pass over the defense to
Gianna Bellomo into the box where the Senior took full advantage of her opportunity to stick the ball into the goal to put the Royals up 2-0 in the 14th minute. Rosario would find her 2nd goal of the game, and team leading 7th goal of the season, in the 40th minute when she beat her defender on the right wing and ripped a left-footed shot into the far left side of the goal to give the Royals a commanding 3-0 lead into halftime.
Despite the offensive pressure that the Royals created to open the 2nd half, the Eagles struck first to cut the Royals lead to 2 in the 56th minute. Warner didn't let the goal affect them as they quickly earned a Penalty Kick after their offensive pressure caused an Eagles defender to commit a handball in the box in the 57th minute. Bellomo stepped up to take the PK, which she converted to earn her first brace of the season. First year Royal,
Hailey Westphal added to the Royals lead in the 63rd minute when she dribbled through multiple defenders before blasting a shot past the TCJ goalkeeper to give the Royals their 5th goal of the game.
Shelby Cape netted the Royals 6th goal in the final minute of play after the Royals forced a turnover deep inside the Royals' offensive third before Cape collected the ball and nailed a shot into the back of the net to end their 4th win of the year with a 6-to-1 final score.
The Royals defense stood strong against the Eagles offense, limiting TCJ to only 3 shots, 2 on goal, and no corners.
Haley Van Houweling recorded 1 save in the win, but it came on an incredible save on an Eagles PK shot with just over 7 minutes remaining in the game. The final stat line for the Royals was 44 shots, 22 on goal, 9 corner kicks, and 1 save.
