LAKE WALES, Fla. - The Royals Women's Volleyball team continued their SUN Conference campaign on Saturday at home when they faced off with Ave Maria University. Despite taking the 2nd set of the match, the Royals would fall to the Gyrenes 1 set to 3 (24-26, 25-19, 18-25, 21-25).
The opening set of Saturday's SUN Conference match was a thriller, seeing both teams battle back and forth throughout the set creating leads and mounting comebacks. The Gyrenes ultimately found the edge at the end of Set 1 to win the opener by a score of 26-24. The Royals bounced back quickly in the 2nd set after being tied at 17 before pulling away and outscoring the Gyrenes 8 to 2 to end the set with a 25-19 win. Warner fought hard in the 3rd set, but AMU would find their rythym to take the set 25-18. The Royals refused to go down without a fight and despite going down by as many as 6 points early in the set, the Royals fought their way back to tie the match up 16. The two programs exchanged blows through the end of the set, but AMU was able to fend off the Royals comeback to take the set 25-21 to win the match.Â
Offensively, the Royals were led by
Araya Garrison who recorded 14 of the team's 36 total kills and totaled 17.5 points after recording 1 service ace and a team leading 3 total blocks (2 solo). Warner had one of their best days at the service line this season with 10 Service Aces as a team and were lead by
Leonelis Lopez-Fernandez and
Antonia Amer who each had 3 aces on Saturday.
Imar Laboy continues to creep towards the 1,500 Career assist mark as the Senior recorded 28 assists to put her at a career total of 1,327 assists. On the defensive end of the court Lopez-Fernandez recorded a season high of 25 digs, only 1 short of her career high of 26 which she recorded at Ave Maria nearly 1 year ago on September 20th, 2025.
Warner will look to bounce back next week as they continue their SUN Conference campaign when they take on New College of Florida.Â
