LAKE WALES, Fla. - The Royals historic 6 game winning streak game to an end on Saturday when they fell in a physical game to SUN Conference Opponent. Warner outshot the Mighty Banyans 15 to 11 in the SUN Conference Opener, but were unable to find the back of the net and fell by a score of 0-to-3.
The Royals opened the game controlling the majority of possession and creating offensive pressure in their Conference Opener earning a Corner Kick only 3 minutes into the game, followed by
Shelby Cape that beat the Banyans goalkeeper but hit the crossbar. Warner created more chances throughout the opening 10 minutes of play, but NCF would take advantage of their first shot on goal of the day scoring in a transition attack during the 12th minute. The Royals answered back with more offensive pressure that saw the Royals record 2 more shots, including a header that just went over the goal, before NCF could generate their 2nd shot of the game. NCF would go on to extend their lead scoring in the 27th and 37th minutes of the game to put the Banyans up 3-to-0 entering the break.
Warner regained control of the possession during the 2nd half recording 6 shots before NCF recorded their 1st shot of the half. The Royals defense locked down the NCF offense in the 2nd half preventing them from recording a shot until the 71st minute. Senior Goalkeeper
Haley Van Houweling recorded 2 incredible saves during the 2nd half including a clutch 1v1 save in the box to prevent the NCF offense from adding to their lead. Despite recording 9 shots, 3 on goal, during the 2nd half Warner was unable to mount a comeback and would fall 0-to-3.
Despite the loss, the Royals battled all the way to the end and even outshot the Banyans 15 to 11. The Royals final stat line from Saturday was 15 total shots, 4 on goal, 6 Corner Kicks, and 2 saves. Saturday ended the Royals 6 game winning streak, which marked the best 6 game start in program history and was the 2nd longest winning streak in program history. During the winning streak the Royals outscored their opponents by an incredible 40 goals scored to 4 goals allowed. Warner's 40 goals scored during the 6 game stretch was more goals scored in a single season by the program since the 2022 season, where the Royals scored 44 in 17 games.
The Royals will look to bounce back next week when they host Florida National University in a non-Conference match on Tuesday before heading to Georgia to take on #24 SCAD for their next SUN Conference matchup.
