Christy Sprague


Coach Christy Sprague joined the Lady Royals Softball Program in July of 2018. She is entering her sixth season as the pitching coach and her fourth season as an assistant coach. Coach Sprague has been coaching fastpitch softball for 27 years. She began her career as the pitching coach at Bartow High School, where she helped guide the Lady Jackets to seven FHSAA State Championships and one USA Today National Championship. 

After an 18-year stint at BHS, Coach Sprague took the helm of the Fort Meade Lady Miners Softball Program. During her two years as the Lady Miners head coach, she led the program to its first two winning seasons in its 20-year history and its first appearance in the regional quarterfinals. Coach Sprague was named the District 8 Coach of the Year in 2016. In 2015 and 2016, she produced two District 8 Players of the Year and 3 Miracle Sports All-State Players. 

Coach Sprague left her position as the Lady Miners' Head coach and returned to her role as a pitching coach for the Winter Haven High School Lady Blue Devils for the 2017 and 2018 seasons. While at WHHS, her pitching staff led the Lady Blue Devils to their first district title in 23 years in 2018. 

She owned and operated Green’s Fastpitch Academy as a softball coach with her father, Richard Green. She and her father have produced: 

  • 35 – Lakeland Ledger 1st Team All Area Players 
  • 13 – Lakeland Ledger Pitcher of the Year Recipients 
  • Pitchers led their teams to 24 State High School Final Fours 
  • Pitchers led their teams to 8 High School State Championships 
  • Multiple 1st Team All-State Players 
  • Multiple Dairy Farmers Pitcher of the Year 
  • Pitchers led their teams to 8 College Conference Championships 
  • Pitchers led their teams to 5 Women’s College World Series 
  • Pitchers named to College All-Americans 9 times. 
  • 3 Conference Pitcher of the Year Recipients 
  • 8 Pitchers named to All Conference Teams multiple times. 


During her playing career, Coach Sprague earned NJCAA 2nd Team All-American honors in 1992 while playing for Spartanburg Methodist College. Then, as a player for Webber College (Webber International University) from 1994 -1996, she was named NAIA 1st Team All-American for three years. She was also named NAIA National Player of the Week twice. While at Webber, she became the first Florida Sun Conference Player of the Year in 1996. She ended her college career posting a 100-28 record with 1,141 strikeouts, 136 BB, 15 No-Hitters, 7 perfect games, a .61 ERA, and a .356 BA with 101 RBI. She pitched in the 1992 NJCAA Women’s College World Series and the 1996 NAIA Women’s College World Series, where she was named 1stteam All-Tournament team for both appearances. 

In 1997, Coach Sprague signed a professional contract to play for the Georgia Pride of the Women’s Professional Fastpitch League. She became the first player in league history to throw a shutout.

Coach Sprague graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Environmental Science and from Polk State College with an Associate of Arts Degree in Liberal Arts. She is pursuing a master’s degree in sports coaching and performance from Florida 

State University College of Education. She is a native of Bartow, Florida, where she attended Bartow High School. Coach Sprague lives in Fort Meade, FL, with her husband of 25 years, Dale, and their daughter, Kenzie.
