Royals Fall To Lions In Quarterfinals

Box Score MIAMI, Fla.- The Warner women's basketball team took on the Florida Memorial Lions in the quarterfinal round of The Sun Conference tournament Tuesday night. The Royals started the first quarter hot as they built up a 12-9 lead on the Lions late in the quarter. However, the Lions used a 7-0 run to finish the quarter to go up 16-12 after the first. There was not a ton of offense in the second quarter as both teams struggled to get the ball in the hoop. The Royals twice got within one point of the Lions, but Florida Memorial would take a 21-18 lead into halftime. The Lions came out hot in the third quarter and forced the Royals to keep up with them. Even though Florida Memorial was hitting their shots, the Royals refused to go away. Twice the Royals found themselves down by ten points in the third quarter, but they kept on pushing and finished the third within striking distance, only down 40-35. The Royals pushed the Lions the entire fourth quarter and forced Florida Memorial to make plays. Unfortunately for the Royals, Florida Memorial hit their free throws and made some clutch shots at the end of the game to beat Warner 59-55. The Royals finish their season 13-16. Kaley Schmick led the team with 15 points in the game while I'munique Green and Sara Poehlman finished with 10 points.
