Box Score LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga.- For the first time in program history, the Royals came away victorious in a NAIA Opening Round or Regional. Warner came into the tournament as the #2 seed after winning The Sun Conference championship. In their first game of the NAIA Opening Round, the Royals were matched up against the #3 seeded Williams Baptist Eagles from Arkansas. Warner sent The Sun Conference pitcher of the year, Chelsie Valentine to the mound to open up tournament play for the Royals. Warner would strike first in the game on a two out Megan Hammett double over the left fielders head that would score Tori Johnson for a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. The Eagles would come right back in the bottom half of the inning to get an unearned run to tie the game at 1-1. In the top of the fifth, Jessica Adams came through with a big two run blast over the left field wall to give the Royals a 3-1 lead. Adams would come through for the Royals once again in the top of the seventh with a two RBI single to right center that would score Torey Scott and Caylin Delones to put the Royals up 5-1. Valentine would not need the insurance runs however, as she only allowed one baserunner after the fourth inning and would complete the game going 7 innings, giving up 3 hits, 1 unearned run, and striking out 7. The Royals move on to the winners bracket and will play the #1 seed, Georgia Gwinnett Grizzlies, Tuesday at 12 pm.
