Royals Drop World Series Opener

Box Score CLERMONT, Fla.- The Royals opened their World Series championship bid with a 4-2 loss Friday morning to the Ottawa Braves. The loss puts the Royals in the losers bracket and an uphill climb to the championship. Warner opened the scoring in the first inning when Sara Bruno drilled a line drive single to right field that would plate Chantal Crockett and give Warner a 1-0 lead after the first. Ottawa would get to the Royals in the third with three runs to go up 3-1. The Royals would come back in the bottom half of the third with a run when Torey Scott tripled and, with two outs, Bruno hit a long fly ball that was dropped by the centerfielder that would score Scott to cut the lead to 3-2. Ottawa would get another run in the fourth to extend the lead to 4-2. The Royals struggled to get any momentum back on their side the rest of the game and would eventually fall 4-2 to Ottawa. Warner moves on to play Marian (Ind.) at 12:30 pm on Saturday in hopes to extend their World Series stay.
