In 2003, women’s track & field athlete Anabell Montes Blanner became Warner’s first national champion by winning the 400m Hurdles at the NAIA National Track & Field Meet, held in Olathe, Kan. Blanner took the lead in the last 100 meters and never wavered, finishing with a time of 1:01.04.
Then in 2004, Blanner became the first repeat national champion in school history when she captured the 400m Hurdle title for the second straight year, this time in Louisville, Ky. Blanner improved her championship winning-time by nearly two seconds finishing in 59.07.
She spent four years as a Runnin’ Royal from 2001-2004. She graduated in December 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in History.
Blanner received her Master’s degree in Human Performance from Frostburg State University and worked for Orlando Health doing corporate wellness after graduation. She currently works in health promotions for Cigna corporation. Blanner and her husband reside in Oviedo, Fla.
