Warner University Sports Hall of Fame
Dr. R. Michael O’Mire was a student-athlete on the Royals Men’s Basketball team from 1975-1977. O’Mire came to Warner at the encouragement of his pastor, Pastor Clarence Dillon, who was a member of the Warner Board of Trustees. O’Mire had felt a call to ministry in his life, so Warner was a good fit.
After rehabbing from an early knee injury, O’Mire returned to the court and, from the outset, was an outstanding player for the Royals.
He was the leading scorer for the Royals in his two seasons scoring over 1,000 points without the benefit of a three-point line. At 6’6”, O’Mire was predominantly an inside player but could still shoot from outside, what would be today’s three-point line. His career-high 52 points in a game still ranks as one of the highest marks in the program history.
After graduating in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts in Pastoral Ministry, O’Mire began his ministry work first with youth and later as a senior pastor. He went on to earn his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Oral Roberts University (Okla.).
Since 1992, O’Mire has served as senior pastor at Woodlawn Church in Royal Oak, Michigan. He and his wife, Linda, have been married since 1979 and have two children, Matthew and Mindy.
