Rosie Carr began her coaching career at Warner in 1977. She was a PE teacher in the public school system and also an adjunct professor in the Health Education Department at Warner.

Dr. Bill Rigel was her boss and when several students approached him about starting a women’s volleyball team, he thought of Rosie. Because this was before the days of recruitment, they did not have a lot of wins, but this team was the springboard for the tradition of women’s athletics at Warner.

“I was probably a better trainer than a coach because I didn’t have that killer instinct, but I loved the girls, the program and Warner. We had a lot of fun” said Carr.

After coaching for four years, Carr continued teaching in the public school system and also as an adjunct with Warner. She retired after 42 years.

In 2017, we celebrated 40 Years of Warner Women’s Volleyball. Carr’s willingness to coach the first team, began the rich tradition of Women’s Volleyball at Warner. Since then there have been over 480 student-athletes in this program. It is an important sport in our athletic history.

Carr resides in Winter Haven, Florida. She has four living children, Jamie Smith, Nikki McKinney, Ty Carr and Kip Carr. Her youngest son, Jay Carr, passed away in 1981.
